15 | 15 | | respiratory care practitioner to fulfill a required staffing position on an ambulance |

17 | 17 | | ambulance is an aircraft. |

18 | 18 | | Current law imposes certain staffing requirements when sick, disabled, or |
---|
19 | 19 | | injured individuals are transported by ambulance, either by air or ground. In |
---|
20 | 20 | | general, under current law, an ambulance may be staffed with any of the following: |
---|
21 | 21 | | any two emergency medical services practitioners, licensed registered nurses, |
---|
22 | 22 | | licensed physician assistants or physicians, or any combination of those individuals; |
---|
23 | 23 | | one emergency medical services practitioner plus one individual with an emergency |
---|
24 | 24 | | medical services practitioner training permit; or, for certain rural ambulance service |
---|
25 | 25 | | providers, one emergency medical technician and one emergency medical responder. |

26 | 26 | | Current law provides an exception to these requirements to allow a certified |
---|
27 | 27 | | respiratory care practitioner to fulfill one of the staffing positions on the ambulance |
---|
28 | 28 | | when the ambulance is a fixed-wing airplane and the patient is a pediatric patient |

29 | 29 | | being transferred from one hospital to another hospital. The bill expands the scope |
