AN ACT to create 13.45 (8) of the statutes; relating to: requiring a public hearing
on bills with several cosponsors.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires that a bill referred to committee receive a public hearing no
later than 90 days after its referral if at least one-third of the members of either
house of the legislature have signed on as cosponsors of the bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SECTION 1.  13.45 (8) of the statutes is created to read:
13.45 (8)  PUBLIC HEARINGS; COSPONSORS. Any bill referred to a legislative
committee that has not received a public hearing shall be scheduled for a public
hearing no later than 90 days after its referral if at least one-third of the members
of either house of the legislature have signed on as cosponsors of the bill. For a bill

that is referred to more than one committee, the 90-day period begins on the date
of the first referral.
