16 | 16 | | Under current law, no person may conduct, maintain, or operate a tourist |

17 | 17 | | rooming house if the person has not been issued an annual license by the Department |
---|
18 | 18 | | of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection or a local health department acting |
---|
19 | 19 | | for the department. A “tourist rooming house” is defined as any lodging place or |
---|
20 | 20 | | tourist cabin or cottage where sleeping accommodations are offered for pay to |
---|
21 | 21 | | tourists or transients. The definition does not include hotels or bed and breakfast |
---|
22 | 22 | | establishments. |

23 | 23 | | Also under current law, a political subdivision may limit the total number of |
---|
24 | 24 | | days within any consecutive 365-day period that a residential dwelling may be |
---|
25 | 25 | | rented to no fewer than 180 days. This bill prohibits political subdivisions from |
---|
26 | 26 | | limiting the total number days that a residential dwelling may be rented to no more |
---|
27 | 27 | | than 90 days. |

28 | 28 | | The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do |

36 | 36 | | 66.1014 (2) (d) 1. If a residential dwelling is rented for periods of more than 6 |
---|
37 | 37 | | but fewer than 30 consecutive days, a political subdivision may limit the total |
---|
38 | 38 | | number of days within any consecutive 365-day period that the dwelling may be |
---|
39 | 39 | | rented to no fewer more than 180 90 days. The political subdivision may not specify |

40 | 40 | | the period of time during which the residential dwelling may be rented, but the |
---|
41 | 41 | | political subdivision may require that the maximum number of allowable rental days |

42 | 42 | | within a 365-day period must run consecutively. A person who rents the person's |

43 | 43 | | residential dwelling shall notify the clerk of the political subdivision in writing when |

44 | 44 | | the first rental within a 365-day period begins. |
