Current law further directs the department to encourage the display of the poster at establishments including gas stations, hotels, adult entertainment establishments, salons, sites related to agricultural labor, hospitals, medical centers, alternative clinics, massage parlors and spas, courthouses, rest areas, and transit stations. 2023 Assembly Bill 980 directs DOJ to also make the poster, described above, be available to print from its website, mandates the display of the poster by the establishments listed under current law, and expands that list of establishments to include establishments licensed to serve alcoholic beverages, tattoo establishments, job recruitment centers, community-based residential facilities, and public and private elementary and secondary schools. The bill also directs DOJ to monitor compliance with the posting requirement and notify operators of establishments to correct violations within 30 days. ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT 2 Assembly Amendment 2 further expands the list of establishments required to display the human trafficking poster to include campgrounds and other lodging establishments, and, with respect to display at an elementary or secondary school, requires the poster to be displayed in an area of the building that is intended to be accessed only by adult staff members. Additionally, Assembly Amendment 2 deletes the provision of the bill relating to monitoring of compliance by DOJ. BILL HISTORY 2023 Assembly Bill 980 was introduced by Representative Stubbs on January 19, 2024. On February 6, 2024, Representative Stubbs offered Assembly Amendment 2 to Assembly Bill 980. On February 7, 2024, the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economy and Small Business Development recommended adoption of Assembly Amendment 2 and passage of Assembly Bill 981, as amended, on successive votes of Ayes, 11; Noes, 0.
