1212 Relating to: declaring March 3, 2024, to March 9, 2024, as Women in Construction
1313 Week and celebrating the countless contributions of women in construction.
1414 Whereas, the economic impact of Wisconsin's construction industry totaled over
1515 $50 billion in economic output and contributed over $27 billion to the state's GDP,
1616 according to the University of Colorado Boulder Leeds School of Business; and
1717 Whereas, an estimated 400,000 new skilled workers are needed nationwide to
1818 fill construction jobs; and
1919 Whereas, one in five construction workers in Wisconsin is 55 or older, making
2020 the need to fill construction jobs here even more dire; and
2121 Whereas, women make up nearly 48 percent of the Wisconsin workforce, but
2222 only 9 percent of the Wisconsin construction industry workforce, which is below the
2323 national average of 14 percent; and
2424 Whereas, jobs in the construction industry offer long-term, family-supporting
2525 careers; and

4343 Whereas, national Women in Construction Week highlights the incredible
4444 initiatives and work of women within the construction industry; and
4545 Whereas, national Women in Construction Week is observed to show our
4646 appreciation to those women who have contributed to the construction industry,
4747 while encouraging others to make the same commitment; and
4848 Whereas, by helping to raise awareness of the available opportunities for
4949 women in the construction industry, the numbers and achievements of women in the
5050 construction industry can continue to grow; now, therefore, be it
5151 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
5252 Wisconsin Legislature join in declaring March 3, 2024, to March 9, 2024 as Women
5353 in Construction Week and celebrating the countless contributions of women
5454 currently in the construction industry and those who paved the way.
