1212 Relating to: celebrating May 5, 2023, as Skilled Trades Day in Wisconsin.
1313 Whereas, the construction industry is one of our nation's largest industries, and
1414 those in the skilled trades work in critical, rewarding, high-paying, high-demand
1515 jobs that cannot be outsourced overseas; and
1616 Whereas, according to the Associated Builders and Contractors, over one in four
1717 construction workers are over 55 years old, and the construction industry will need
1818 to attract an estimated 546,000 additional workers on top of the normal pace of hiring
1919 in 2023; and
2020 Whereas, Wisconsin's world-renowned registered apprentice program allows
2121 inexperienced individuals of any age to participate in structured, on-the-job
2222 training with classroom instruction where they earn while they learn; and
2323 Whereas, according to the Wisconsin Technical College System, the annual
2424 median salary for all graduated construction apprentices is $87,000; and

4141 Whereas, National Skilled Trades Day was created to help raise awareness of
4242 the important work of those men and women who build the places where we all live,
4343 work, play, worship, learn, and heal; now, therefore, be it
4444 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
4545 Legislature celebrates May 5, 2023, as Skilled Trades Day in Wisconsin.
