5-Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Representative Daniel LeMahieu.
6-Whereas, Representative Daniel Roy LeMahieu, a dedicated public servant, proud veteran,
7-community and business leader, and loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on February
8-18, 2022; and
9-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was born to Lewis and Lenore on November 5, 1946, in Sheboygan,
10-Wisconsin; and
11-Whereas, he graduated from Oostburg High School in 1964 and went on to attend the
12-UW−Sheboygan and UW−Milwaukee; and
13-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 before working in
14-advertising at News Graphic for over ten years; and
15-Whereas, he went on to purchase the Lakeshore Weekly and was the owner and publisher of the
16-weekly for 23 years; and
17-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu served as a Sheboygan County Board Supervisor from 1988 until
18-2002, twice being elected chairman; and
19-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was first elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 2002 and proudly
20-represented the people of the 59th Assembly District for 12 years; and
21-Whereas, during his time in the assembly, he served as vice−chair of the powerful Joint
22-Committee on Finance and also served as co−chair of the Joint Committee for Review of
23-Administrative Rules and chair of the Assembly Committee on Urban and Local Affairs; and
24-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was a lifelong member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church,
25-where he served as elder, Sunday School superintendent, sang in choir, and was active in Men’s Life;
26-and
27-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was also active in the Oostburg Business Association and the
28-Oostburg Kiwanis Club and, during retirement, served on the board of Anchor of Hope and the regional
29-board of Thrivent; and
30-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community
31-and the state of Wisconsin; and
32-Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu’s legacy in the Wisconsin Legislature lives on through his son,
33-Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu; now, therefore, be it
34-Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin State
35-Legislature join in honoring the life and public service of Representative Daniel LeMahieu and extend
36-their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
37-Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Rosemary,
38-Daniel LeMahieu’s wife of 54 years.
