1313 Relating to: designating July 2023 as Disability Pride Month in Wisconsin.
1414 Whereas, disability is a natural part of human life and human diversity that
1515 should not compromise a person' s fundamental right to independence,
1616 self-determination, or participation in public life; and
1717 Whereas, the disabled community is the world's largest minority, making up an
1818 estimated 15 percent of the world's population, including 61 million Americans and
1919 more than 300,000 Wisconsinites; and
2020 Whereas, disability intersects with many other identities, including race,
2121 gender, and socioeconomic status, and touches every aspect of daily life, from health
2222 care and housing to education and environmental justice; and
2323 Whereas, disability is itself an extremely diverse identity, including physical
2424 disabilities, neurodivergence, invisible and undiagnosed disabilities, psychiatric
2525 disabilities, and sensory disabilities; and
2626 Whereas, disabled activists have fought long and hard to break down barriers
2727 to inclusion but nonetheless continue to face discrimination, segregation, and

4848 Whereas, the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination
4949 on the basis of disability status and has helped ensure disabled people can access the
5050 accommodations they need, was signed into law on July 26, 1990; and
5151 Whereas, during the month of July, we celebrate the value, contributions, and
5252 diverse life experiences of disabled Wisconsinites and reaffirm our commitment to
5353 build a more equitable and inclusive state for all; now therefore, be it
5454 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
5555 Legislature designates July 2023 as Disability Pride Month in Wisconsin.
