10 | 10 | | Whereas, the Good Friday Agreement, reached on April 10, 1998, sought to end |

11 | 11 | | a decades-long period of politically-motivated violence in Northern Ireland, known |

12 | 12 | | as the Troubles, which took the lives of more than 3,500 people; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | Whereas, April 10, 2023, marks the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday |
---|
14 | 14 | | Agreement, which, despite some outstanding issues, has been a considerable |
---|
15 | 15 | | success; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | Whereas, many on the Emerald Isle owe their lives to the agreement, which has |
---|
17 | 17 | | benefitted from the implementation and ongoing support from the governments of |
---|
18 | 18 | | Ireland and the United Kingdom; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | Whereas, the agreement's success has been bolstered by the continuous |
---|
20 | 20 | | bipartisan support of successive U.S. presidents, the U.S. Congress, state legislators, |
---|
21 | 21 | | and other elected officials working in partnership with the governments of Ireland |
---|
22 | 22 | | and the United Kingdom; and |

47 | 47 | | means of resolving differences; now, therefore, be it |

48 | 48 | | Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin Assembly |
---|
49 | 49 | | celebrate links between Americans and the Irish people; and, be it further |
---|
50 | 50 | | Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin Assembly give thanks for |
---|
51 | 51 | | continued peace and national cooperation upon the 25th anniversary of the Good |
---|
52 | 52 | | Friday Agreement. |
