2023 - 2024 LEGISLATURE
2023 ASSEMBLY RESOLUTIO N 7
March 8, 2023 - Introduced by Representatives MURPHY, VOS, SCHRAA, CALLAHAN,
O'CONNOR, MCGUIRE, DONOVAN, DITTRICH and DOYLE. Referred to Committee
on Rules.
***AUTHORS SUBJECT TO CHANGE***
Relating to: commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
Whereas, the Good Friday Agreement, reached on April 10, 1998, sought to end
a decades-long period of politically-motivated violence in Northern Ireland, known
as the Troubles, which took the lives of more than 3,500 people; and
Whereas, April 10, 2023, marks the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday
Agreement, which, despite some outstanding issues, has been a considerable
success; and
Whereas, many on the Emerald Isle owe their lives to the agreement, which has
benefitted from the implementation and ongoing support from the governments of
Ireland and the United Kingdom; and
Whereas, the agreement's success has been bolstered by the continuous
bipartisan support of successive U.S. presidents, the U.S. Congress, state legislators,
and other elected officials working in partnership with the governments of Ireland
and the United Kingdom; and

Whereas, the Good Friday Agreement acknowledged the legitimacy of two
differing political positions—support for Irish unity and support for Northern
Ireland remaining part of the United Kingdom—and the ability of both groups to
pursue their goals; and
Whereas, the Good Friday Agreement was a significant turning point,
providing the Irish people with a political framework to address their future and a
framework for lasting peace in Northern Ireland; and
Whereas, the Good Friday Agreement represented a democratic and peaceful
means of resolving differences; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin Assembly
celebrate links between Americans and the Irish people; and, be it further
Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin Assembly give thanks for
continued peace and national cooperation upon the 25th anniversary of the Good
Friday Agreement.
