1111 AN ACT to create 29.591 (1) (e) of the statutes; relating to: hunter education
1212 requirements for persons under the age of 18 and granting rule-making
1313 authority.
1414 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1515 This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to offer in-person and
1616 online hunter education for persons under the age of 18. The bill also requires
1717 persons under the age of 18 to attend an in-person field training session and
1818 complete a certification exam following completion of the in-person or online course
1919 of instruction. The bill also requires DNR to promulgate rules establishing the
2020 curriculum, length, and fee for the courses.
2121 Under current law, DNR must establish a hunter education program and bow
2222 hunter education program that provide instruction in the responsibilities of hunters,
2323 how to recognize threatened and endangered species, and principles of wildlife
2424 management and conservation. DNR is required to offer an online course of
2525 instruction for persons age 18 and older.

2828 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do

3535 SECTION 1. 29.591 (1) (e) of the statutes is created to read:
3636 29.591 (1) (e) The department shall offer an in-person and online course of
3737 instruction under the hunter education program to persons under the age of 18. The
3838 department shall require persons under the age of 18 to attend an in-person field
3939 training session and complete a certification exam following completion of the
4040 in-person or online course of instruction. The department shall promulgate rules
4141 establishing the curriculum, length, and fee for the courses of instruction offered
4242 under this paragraph.
