[2023 Senate Bill 485] 
Robbery of a Financial 
Institution 
The offense of robbery of a financial institution is committed when a person, by use of force or threat to 
use imminent force, takes money or property that is owned by or under the custody of another or 
control of a financial institution from an individual or in the presence of an individual. A person who 
commits this offense is guilty of a Class C felony.  
2023 Wisconsin Act 133 provides that a person is also guilty of robbery of a financial institution if he or 
she creates circumstances that would cause a reasonable person to believe use of force was imminent.  
Effective date: March 23, 2024
