2023 - 2024 LEGISLATURE
2023 SENATE BILL 485
October 9, 2023 - Introduced by Senators W IMBERGER, BALLWEG, BRADLEY,
MARKLEIN and TOMCZYK, cosponsored by Representatives TUSLER, GUNDRUM,
MOSES, MURPHY, O'CONNOR, ROZAR and ALLEN. Referred to Committee on
Judiciary and Public Safety.
AN ACT to amend 943.87 of the statutes; relating to: robbery of a financial
institution and providing a penalty.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law it is a Class C felony to, by use of force or threat to use
imminent force, take property from an individual that is owned or under the custody
or control of a financial institution. This bill provides that it is also a Class C felony
to take such property by creating circumstances that would cause a reasonable
person to believe use of force was imminent. A Class C felony is punishable by
imprisonment for up to 40 years or a fine of up to $100,000, or both.
Because this bill creates a new crime or revises a penalty for an existing crime,
the Joint Review Committee on Criminal Penalties may be requested to prepare a
report.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
