Referred to Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety. AN ACT to amend 943.87 of the statutes; relating to: robbery of a financial institution and providing a penalty. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau Under current law it is a Class C felony to, by use of force or threat to use imminent force, take property from an individual that is owned or under the custody or control of a financial institution. This bill provides that it is also a Class C felony to take such property by creating circumstances that would cause a reasonable person to believe use of force was imminent. A Class C felony is punishable by imprisonment for up to 40 years or a fine of up to $100,000, or both. Because this bill creates a new crime or revises a penalty for an existing crime, the Joint Review Committee on Criminal Penalties may be requested to prepare a report. The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. 943.87 of the statutes is amended to read: 943.87 Robbery of a financial institution.
