2023 Senate Bill 573
Senate
Amendment 1
2023 SENATE BILL 573
Under current law, a person must undergo initial training to become certified as a law enforcement
officer and then complete at least 24 hours of training annually to remain certified. The Law
Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) must authorize reimbursement to each political subdivision for
approved expenses incurred by recruits who satisfactorily complete initial training at schools certified
by LESB. LESB must also reimburse each political subdivision of approved expenses for law
enforcement officers who complete annual recertification training in the amount of at least $160 per
officer.
2023 Senate Bill 573 increases the minimum reimbursement amount for annual recertification training
from $160 to $320. The bill also requires LESB to provide payment directly to each employing law
enforcement agency for the expenses, rather than the political subdivision.
SENATE AMENDMENT 1
Under Senate Amendment 1, the increase in the reimbursement rate first applies to training costs
incurred on July 1, 2024.
