AN ACT to amend 20.455 (2) (gr) and 175.60 (7) (c) of the statutes; relating to:
position authorizations in the Office of School Safety and making an
appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, there is the Office of School Safety in the Department of
Justice. This bill increases the number of positions for the office by 14.2 project
positions starting January 1, 2025, and ending September 30, 2025.  The bill
provides funding for the positions from the fees that DOJ collects for issuing licenses
to carry concealed weapons.

an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SECTION 1.  20.455 (2) (gr) of the statutes is amended to read:
20.455 (2) (gr)  Handgun purchaser record check; checks for licenses or
certifications to carry concealed weapons. All moneys received as fee payments under

ss. 175.35 (2i), 175.49 (5m), and 175.60 (7) (c) and (d), (13), and (15) (b) 4. a. and b.
to provide services under ss. 165.28, 175.35, 175.49, and 175.60.
SECTION 2.  175.60 (7) (c) of the statutes is amended to read:
175.60 (7) (c)  A license fee in an amount, as determined by the department by
rule, that is equal to the cost of issuing the license but does not exceed $37.  The
department shall determine the costs of issuing a license by using a 5-year planning
period.
SECTION 3.0Nonstatutory provisions.
(1) PROJECT POSITIONS FOR THE OFFICE OF SCHOOL SAFETY. The authorized FTE
positions for the department of justice are increased by 14.2 project positions, to be
funded from the appropriation under s. 20.455 (2) (gr), for the purpose of supporting
and enhancing school safety initiatives for the period beginning on January 1, 2025,
and ending on September 30, 2025.
