8	8	Whereas, August 15, 2023, marks the 76th anniversary of the effective date of
9	9	the India Independence Act on August 15, 1947, and the resulting establishment of
10	10	India as a sovereign state independent from the United Kingdom; and
11	11	Whereas, Indian citizens, people of Indian descent, and many others worldwide
12	12	have celebrated India's Independence Day on August 15 each year since 1947; and
13	13	Whereas, the celebration of India's Independence Day provides important
14	14	opportunities to recognize and commemorate India's cultural diversity, extensive
15	15	history, and the many historical and modern contributions of Indian immigrants and
16	16	those of Indian descent to the past and present both in Wisconsin and across the
17	17	world; and
18	18	Whereas, IndiaFest Wisconsin has been held annually since 2013 and features
19	19	hundreds of volunteers, thousands of attendees, and dozens of corporate sponsors all
20	20	gathering to celebrate India's independence, culture, and heritage; and

38	38	Whereas, a variety of sponsors, including the nonprofit organization Spindle
39	39	India, Inc., have made such celebrations possible through generous donations of
40	40	time, effort, and resources that expand cultural education, bring communities
41	41	together, and promote collaboration between India and the United States; and
42	42	Whereas, the continuing efforts of IndiaFest's organizers and volunteers each
43	43	and every year represent invaluable contributions that have and will continue to
44	44	advance cultural understanding of the Indian community and promote diversity and
45	45	inclusion for years to come; now, therefore, be it
46	46	Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
47	47	Legislature observes August 15, 2023, as India Day in Wisconsin.
