1414 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
1515 enact as follows:
1616 JOINT LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL PREFATORY NOTE: This bill was prepared for the
1717 Joint Legislative Council[s Special Committee on State-Tribal Relations.
1818 Under current law, one member of the Professional Standards Council for
1919 Teachers (PSCT), which advises the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), must be a
2020 person licensed as a teacher by DPI, employed in a tribal school, and recommended by a
2121 federally recognized American Indian tribe or band in Wisconsin that has a tribal
2222 school.
2323 This bill removes the requirement that this PSCT member be licensed by DPI.
2424 Under the bill, the requirements for this PSCT member would instead be that the
2525 person is employed as a teacher in a tribal school and recommended by a federally
2626 recognized American Indian tribe or band in Wisconsin that has a tribal school.
2727 SECTION 1. 15.377 (8) (c) 14. of the statutes is amended to read:

3535 15.377 (8) (c) 14. One person licensed as a teacher and actively who is
3636 employed as a teacher in a tribal school, as defined in s. 115.001 (15m),
3737 recommended by a federally recognized American Indian tribe or band in this state
3838 that has a tribal school.
3939 SECTION 2. Initial applicability.
4040 (1) This act first applies to an individual appointed under s. 15.377 (8) (c) 14.
4141 on the effective date of this subsection.
