1515 Relating to: celebrating 50 years of strength and resilience of the Hmong, Lao,
1616 Cambodian, and Vietnamese people.
1717 Whereas, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of the Vietnam
1818 War and the Secret War in Laos, conflicts that significantly impacted the lives of
1919 millions in Southeast Asia; and
2020 Whereas, 2025 also marks the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Phnom Penh in
2121 Cambodia in 1975; and
2222 Whereas, in the aftermath of these events, a substantial number of
2323 individuals of diverse ethnicity from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam sought refuge
2424 and resettled in the United States, enriching our nation with their diverse cultures,
2525 traditions, and contributions; and
2626 Whereas, such communities largely resettled in Wisconsin, overcoming
2727 adversity to establish vibrant communities that have significantly contributed to
2828 the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our state; and

4444 Whereas, Wisconsin is now home to the third-largest Hmong population in the
4545 United States, with communities thriving in cities like Appleton, Sheboygan, Green
4646 Bay, Wausau, and Milwaukee; and
4747 Whereas, it is fitting and proper to honor and commemorate the enduring
4848 strength, cultural heritage, and contributions of these Southeast Asian American
4949 communities on this significant anniversary; now, therefore, be it
5050 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of
5151 the Wisconsin Legislature honor the resilience of Southeast Asian American
5252 communities by commemorating the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of the
5353 Vietnam War, the conclusion of the Secret War in Laos, and the Fall of Phnom Penh
5454 in Cambodia in 1975.
