10	10	AN ACT to renumber 66.0628 (1) (a); to create 66.0628 (1) (ag) and 66.0628 (2s)
11	11	of the statutes; relating to: local building permit fees for certain
12	12	improvements of residences of disabled veterans.

14	14	This bill requires a political subdivision to reduce the fee it charges for a
15	15	building permit by 75 percent or $500, whichever reduction is less, if the permit is
16	16	for improvements to the primary residence of a disabled veteran, the improvements
17	17	are necessary to accommodate a disability of the disabled veteran, and the
18	18	residence is owned by the disabled veteran or a caretaker of the disabled veteran.
19	19	For further information see the local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
20	20	an appendix to this bill.
21	21	The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
22	22	enact as follows:
23	23	SECTION 1. 66.0628 (1) (a) of the statutes is renumbered 66.0628 (1) (as).
24	24	SECTION 2. 66.0628 (1) (ag) of the statutes is created to read:
25	25	66.0628 (1) (ag) XDisabled veteranY has the meaning given in s. 45.437 (1).

36	36	SECTION 3. 66.0628 (2s) of the statutes is created to read:
37	37	66.0628 (2s) (a) A political subdivision shall reduce by 75 percent or $500,
38	38	whichever reduction is less, any fee it charges for a building permit if all of the
39	39	following apply:
40	40	1. The permit is for improvements to the primary residence of a disabled
41	41	veteran.
42	42	2. The improvements under subd. 1. are necessary to accommodate a
43	43	disability of the disabled veteran.
44	44	3. The residence under subd. 1. is owned by the disabled veteran or a
45	45	caretaker of the disabled veteran.
46	46	(b) A political subdivision may require proof of all of the following before
47	47	providing a fee reduction under par. (a):
48	48	1. That the disabled veteran satisfies the definition of disabled veteran under
49	49	s. 45.437 (1).
50	50	2. That the residence is the primary residence of the disabled veteran.
51	51	3. That the improvements are necessary to accommodate a disability of the
52	52	disabled veteran.
53	53	4. That the residence is owned by the disabled veteran or a caretaker of the
54	54	disabled veteran.
