14	14	Relating to: commemorating Hmong-Lao Veterans Day and honoring the Hmong-
15	15	Lao veterans who served alongside the United States in the Vietnam War.
16	16	Whereas, during the Vietnam War, the Central Intelligence Agency and U.S.
17	17	Armed Forces recruited, organized, trained, and assisted Hmong-Lao forces to
18	18	combat the North Vietnamese Army and Pathet Lao forces; and
19	19	Whereas, thousands of Hmong-Lao people courageously fought alongside
20	20	Americans throughout the Vietnam War and, facing harsh retribution from the
21	21	Vietnamese and Lao governments following the war[s end, many were ultimately
22	22	forced to flee their homes; and
23	23	Whereas, on May 14, 1975, the last of the Hmong-Lao soldiers and their
24	24	families fled Laos for the Nam Phong refugee camp in Thailand to later resettle in
25	25	communities throughout the United States, including Wisconsin, and today, our
26	26	state is home to a significant number of Hmong-Lao veterans; and
27	27	Whereas, in accordance with 2021 Wisconsin Act 31, May 14 of each year is

43	43	designated as a day to thank Hmong-Lao veterans in Wisconsin for their service
44	44	and sacrifice, recall the accomplishments of Hmong-Lao veterans, and encourage
45	45	schools to include the military service of Hmong-Lao veterans in discussions and
46	46	curriculums about the Vietnam War; and
47	47	Whereas, the Wisconsin Lao Veterans of America (WLVA) has established
48	48	chapters throughout our state to serve local communities and educate the public
49	49	about the contributions of our Hmong-Lao veterans during the Vietnam War; and
50	50	Whereas, today, the state of Wisconsin joins the WLVA and all Wisconsinites
51	51	in reflecting on the tremendous, and too often overlooked, heroism and sacrifice of
52	52	Hmong-Lao veterans in our state; now, therefore, be it
53	53	Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of
54	54	the Wisconsin Legislature recognize May 14, 2025, and May 14, 2026, as Hmong-
55	55	Lao Veterans Day and pay tribute to those Hmong-Lao veterans who honorably and
56	56	bravely served alongside the United States in the Vietnam War.
