HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 8 ### (By Delegates Mazzocchi and Bridges) [Introduced February 13, 2025; Referred to the Committee on Energy and Public Works then Rules. ] ] Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 23-009/01-000.12 () (23A027), (37.83239, -82.03453) locally known as WHITMAN CREEK BOX BEAM, carrying CR 009/01 over COPPERAS MINE FORK in Logan County the "U.S. Army PFC Lester E. Maynard Memorial Bridge." Whereas, Lester Eugene Maynard lived a life worthy of remembrance; and Whereas, Mr. Maynard was born October 12, 1947, in Logan, WV in Logan County; and Whereas, Mr. Maynard answered his nation's call and served in the Vietnam War; and Whereas, Mr. Maynard was part of Company C, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry of the 199th Light Brigade and saw extensive combat during his service; and Whereas, During a particularly intense bout of combat, Mr. Maynard disregarded his own safety and, under heavy gunfire, provided cover so that his platoon could retreat to a safe location; and Whereas, Mr. Maynard was wounded during this heroic defense of his brothers in arms and ultimately succumbed to his injuries on February 12, 1967; therefore, be it Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia: That the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 23-009/01-000.12 () (23A027), (37.83239, -82.03453) locally known as WHITMAN CREEK BOX BEAM, carrying CR 009/01 over COPPERAS MINE FORK in Logan County the "U.S. Army PFC Lester E. Maynard Memorial Bridge," and, be it Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army PFC Lester E. Maynard Memorial Bridge "; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
