Purpose
Adds the estimated number of available positions for the most in-demand jobs in Arizona
to the information that the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) must annually collect and compile
for prescribed distribution and posting.
Background
The ACA was established in 2011 with the mission to provide private sector leadership in:
1) growing and diversifying the economy of Arizona; 2) creating high-quality employment in
Arizona through expansion, attraction and retention of businesses; and 3) marketing Arizona for
the purpose of expansion, attraction and retention of businesses (A.R.S. § 41-1502).
The ACA must annually collect and compile the following information: 1) the most
in-demand jobs in Arizona, including salary and required education level for each of these jobs;
2) the average cost of each university under the jurisdiction of the Arizona Board of Regents,
community colleges vocational programs and private postsecondary institutions; 3) the lowest to
highest median monthly student loan payment program among undergraduate fields of study for
individuals who attend outlined institutions and programs; 4) the three-year student loan default
rate of individuals who attend outlined institutions and programs; 5) the graduation rate of certain
outlined institutions and programs; 6) the completion rate of certain apprenticeships, high school
equivalency programs and career and technical education programs; and 7) the lowest to highest
median starting earnings among undergraduate fields of study for individuals who graduated from
outlined institutions and programs. The ACA must: 1) annually transmit the information to each
public high school in Arizona to distribute to students; and 2) make the information publicly
available and post on its website (A.R.S. § 41-1509).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this
legislation.
