 BILL NUMBER: SCR 93AMENDED BILL TEXT AMENDED IN ASSEMBLY AUGUST 15, 2012 INTRODUCED BY Senator Vargas MAY 31, 2012 Relative to the Randy Sanchez Memorial Bridge. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SCR 93, as amended, Vargas. Randy Sanchez Memorial Bridge. This measure would designate a specified bridge over  State Highway Route   Interstate  905 as the Randy Sanchez Memorial Bridge. The measure would also request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering those costs, to erect those signs. Fiscal committee: yes. WHEREAS, Randy Sanchez worked at the Department of Transportation for 13 years, making his way through the ranks of the Construction Division and the Program/Project Management Division in the Counties of Imperial and San Diego; and WHEREAS, Randy served the people of the state as project manager for the preliminary stages of the entire  State Highway Route   Interstate  905 project from State Highway Route 805 to the Otay Mesa Port of Entry; and WHEREAS, On September 21, 2004, Randy was tragically killed at the age of 37. While riding to work on his motorcycle, he was struck by a motorist who ran a red light, killing him instantly; and WHEREAS,  At the time of his death,  Randy  is   was  survived by his wife, Annette, and his two children, Ryan, age 9, and Nicole, age 7; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates Spring Canyon Bridge (Bridge No.  57-115   57-1155  L/R) over  State Highway Route   Interstate  905 as the Randy Sanchez Memorial Bridge; and be it further Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system, showing this special  designation, and   designation and,  upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover that cost, to erect those signs; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the author for appropriate distribution.
