AN ACT DESIGNATING VARIOUS DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS, A 
SHELTER PET AS THE STATE PET AND THE LOLLIPOP AS THE 
STATE CANDY.  
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
Section 1. Subsection (a) of section 10-29a of the 2022 supplement to 1 
the general statutes is amended by adding subdivisions (104) to (111), 2 
inclusive, as follows (Effective October 1, 2022): 3 
(NEW) (104) The Governor shall proclaim the month of June of each 4 
year to be Women Veterans Month, in recognition of the service 5 
provided by women veterans. Suitable exercises may be held in the State 6 
Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for the observance of 7 
the month. 8 
(NEW) (105) The Governor shall proclaim the month of September of 9 
each year to be Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, to raise public 10 
awareness of ovarian cancer and available treatments for it. Suitable 11 
exercises may be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the 12 
Governor designates for the observance of the month. 13 
(NEW) (106) The Governor shall proclaim the month of September of 14 
each year to be Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Awareness Month, to raise 15 
public awareness of polycystic ovary syndrome and available 16  Substitute Bill No. 5498

treatments for it. Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and 17 
elsewhere as the Governor designates for the observance of the month. 18 
(NEW) (107) The Governor shall proclaim the first week of May of 19 
each year to be Tardive Dyskinesia Awareness Week, to raise public 20 
awareness of this neurological involuntary movement disorder and 21 
available treatments for it. Suitable exercises may be held in the State 22 
Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for the observance of 23 
the week. 24 
(NEW) (108) The Governor shall proclaim June thirteenth of each 25 
year to be Albinism Awareness Day, to raise public awareness of 26 
albinism. Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and 27 
elsewhere as the Governor designates for the observance of the day. 28 
(NEW) (109) The Governor shall proclaim September seventh of each 29 
year to be Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day, to raise 30 
public awareness of this rare genetic disease that causes progressive 31 
muscular degeneration and weakness and available treatments for it. 32 
Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the 33 
Governor designates for the observance of the day. 34 
(NEW) (110) The Governor shall proclaim September fourteenth of 35 
each year to be Free Enterprise Day, to recognize the contributions that 36 
free enterprise has made to the state's economy. Suitable exercises may 37 
be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates 38 
for the observance of the day. 39 
(NEW) (111) The Governor shall proclaim September seventeenth of 40 
each year to be Constitution Day, to commemorate the formation and 41 
signing of the United States Constitution. Suitable exercises may be held 42 
in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the Governor designates for the 43 
observance of the day. 44 
Sec. 2. Subdivision (103) of subsection (a) of section 10-29a of the 2022 45 
supplement to the general statutes is repealed and the following is 46 
substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2022): 47  Substitute Bill No. 5498

(103) The Governor shall proclaim the month of March of each year 48 
to be Peace Corps Month, in recognition of the service provided by the 49 
volunteers of the Peace Corps in supporting the global community. 50 
Suitable exercises may be held in the State Capitol and elsewhere as the 51 
Governor designates for the observance of the month. 52 
Sec. 3. (NEW) (Effective from passage) A shelter pet shall be the state 53 
pet. 54 
Sec. 4. (NEW) (Effective from passage) The lollipop shall be the state 55 
candy. 56 
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following 
sections:
