2727 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 14

2929 Section 1. Paragraph (i) of subsection (1) of section 16
3030 1003.02, Florida- Statutes, is amended to read: 17
3131 1003.02 District school board operation and control of 18
3232 public K-12 education within the school district. —As provided in 19
3333 part II of chapter 1001, district school boards are 20
3434 constitutionally and statutorily charged wit h the operation and 21
3535 control of public K-12 education within their school districts. 22
3636 The district school boards must establish, organize, and operate 23
3737 their public K-12 schools and educational programs, employees, 24
3838 and facilities. Their responsibilities inclu de staff 25

5656 (1) Provide for the proper accounting for all students of 31

5858 school, and for proper attention to health, safety, and other 33
5959 matters relating to the welfare of students in the following 34

6161 (i) Parental Notification of acceleration , academic, and 36
6262 career planning options.—At the beginning of each school year, 37
6363 notify parents of students in or entering high school and the 38
6464 students' parents, in a language that is understandable to 39
6565 students and parents, of the opportunity and benefits of 40
6666 advanced placement, International Baccalaureate, Advanced 41
6767 International Certificate of Education, dual enrollment, career 42
6868 and professional academies, career -themed courses, the career 43
6969 and technical education pat hway to earn a standard high school 44
70-diploma under s. 1003.4282(10), work -based learning 45
70+diploma under s. 1003.4282(11), work -based learning 45
7171 opportunities, including internships and apprenticeship and 46
7272 preapprenticeship programs, and Florida Virtual School courses ; 47
7373 and options for early graduation under s. 10 03.4281; and contact 48
7474 information of a certified school counselor who can advise 49

9292 (1) In order for a student to be promoted to high school 55
9393 from a school that includes middle grades 6, 7, and 8, the 56
9494 student must successfully complete the following courses: 57
9595 (e) One course in career and education planning to be 58
9696 completed in grades 6, 7, or 8, which may be taught by any 59
9797 member of the instructional staff. The course must be Internet -60
9898 based, customizable to each student, and include research -based 61
9999 assessments to assist students in determining educational and 62
100100 career options and goals. In addition, the course must result in 63
101101 a completed personalized academic and career plan for the 64
102102 student that may be revised as the student progresses through 65
103103 middle school and high school; must emphasize the importance of 66
104104 entrepreneurship and employability skills; and must include 67
105105 information from the Department of Economic Opportunity's 68
106106 economic security report under s. 445.07 and other state career 69
107107 planning resources. The required personalized academic and 70
108108 career plan, developed in consult ation with a certified school 71
109109 counselor, must inform students of high school graduation 72
110110 requirements, including a detailed explanation of the 73
111111 requirements for earning a high school diploma designation under 74
112112 s. 1003.4285 and the career and technical educati on pathway to 75
