32-Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 19

34- Section 1. Subsection (18) of section 633.202, Florida 21
35-Statutes, is amended to read: 22

24+Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11

26+ Section 1. Subsection (18) of section 633.202, Florida 13
27+Statutes, is amended to read: 14
28+ 633.202 Florida Fire Prevention Code. — 15
29+ (18) The authority having jurisdiction shall determine the 16
30+minimum radio signal st rength for fire department communications 17
31+in all new high-rise and existing high -rise buildings. Two-way 18
32+radio communication enhancement systems or equivalent systems 19
33+may be used to comply with the minimum radio signal strength 20
34+requirements. However, two -way radio communication enhancement 21
35+systems or equivalent systems are not required in apartment 22
36+buildings 75 feet or less in height with the exterior components 23
37+constructed of wood frame. Evidence of wood frame construction 24
38+shall be shown by the property ow ner providing building permit 25

51-in all new high-rise and existing high-rise buildings. Two-way 26
52-radio communication enhancement systems or equivalent systems 27
53-may be used to comply with the minimum radio signal strength 28
54-requirements. However, two -way radio communication enhancement 29
55-systems or equivalent systems are not required in apartment 30
56-buildings 75 feet or less in height that are constructed using 31
57-wood framing, provided that the building has fewer than 150 32
58-dwelling units and that all dwelling units discharge to the 33
59-exterior or to a corridor that leads directly to an exit as 34
60-defined by the Florida Building Code. Evidence of wood frame 35
61-construction shall be shown by the owner providing building 36
62-permit documentation which identifies the construction type as 37
63-wood frame. Existing high-rise buildings, as defined by the 38
64-Florida Building Code, are not required to c omply with minimum 39
65-radio strength for fire department communications and two -way 40
66-radio communication enhancement systems system enhancement 41
67-communications as required by the Florida Fire Prevention Code 42
68-until January 1, 2025. However, by January 1, 2024, a n existing 43
69-high-rise building that is not in compliance with the 44
70-requirements for minimum radio strength for fire department 45
71-communications must apply for an appropriate permit for the 46
72-required installation with the local government agency having 47
73-jurisdiction and must demonstrate that the building will become 48
74-compliant by January 1, 2025. Existing high-rise apartment 49
75-buildings are not required to comply until January 1, 2025. 50

88-However, existing high-rise apartment buildings are required to 51
89-apply for the appropriate permit for the required communications 52
90-installation by January 1, 2024. 53
91- Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022. 54
