19	19		purpose; amending s. 112.19, F.S.; increasing the 6
20	20		amount of money to be paid toward the funeral and 7
21	21		burial expenses of certain officers killed in the line 8
22	22		of duty; creating s. 112.1921, F.S.; auth orizing a 9
23	23		certain number of hours of administrative leave to be 10
24	24		granted to certain members of a law enforcement agency 11
25	25		for a specified purpose; authorizing the head of a law 12
26	26		enforcement agency to deny such administrative leave 13
27	27		under certain circumstances; amending s. 287.17, F.S.; 14
28	28		authorizing the use of a state motor vehicle to attend 15
29	29		a funeral within the state of a law enforcement 16
30	30		officer who was killed in the line of duty; providing 17

33	33		Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 20

35	35		Section 1. This act may be cited as the "Respecting Their 22
36	36		Sacrifice Act." 23
37	37		Section 2. Paragraph (i) is added to subsection (3) of 24
38	38		section 112.061, Florida Statutes, to read: 25

52	52		employees, and authorized persons; statewide travel management 27
53	53		system.— 28
54	54		(3) AUTHORITY TO INCUR TRAVEL EXPENSES. — 29
55	55		(i) The head of a law enforcement agency may authorize 30
56	56		travel expenses for an employee of the agency whose duties are 31
57	57		those of a law enforcement officer, as defined in s. 943.10(1), 32
58	58		to attend a funeral service within the state of a law 33
59	59		enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty. 34
60	60		Section 3. Paragraph (f) of subsection (2) of section 35
61	61		112.19, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 36
62	62		112.19 Law enforcement, correctional, and correctional 37
63	63		probation officers; death benefits. — 38

65	65		(f) If a full-time law enforcement, correctional, or 40
66	66		correctional probation officer who is certified pursuant to 41
67	67		chapter 943 and employed by a state agency is k illed in the line 42
68	68		of duty while the officer is engaged in the performance of law 43
69	69		enforcement duties or as a result of an assault against the 44
70	70		officer under riot conditions: 45
71	71		1. The sum of $10,000 $1,000 must be paid, as provided for 46
72	72		in paragraph (d), towar d the funeral and burial expenses of such 47
73	73		officer. Such benefits are in addition to any other benefits to 48
74	74		which employee beneficiaries and dependents are entitled under 49
75	75		the Workers' Compensation Law or any other state or federal 50

89	89		2. The officer's employing agency may pay up to $5,000 52
90	90		directly toward the venue expenses associated with the funeral 53
91	91		and burial services of such officer. 54
92	92		Section 4. Section 112.1921, Florida Statutes, is created 55
93	93		to read: 56
94	94		112.1921 Administrative leave for law e nforcement 57
95	95		officers.—The head of a law enforcement agency may grant 58
96	96		administrative leave, not to exceed 8 hours, to an employee of 59
97	97		the agency whose duties are those of a law enforcement officer, 60
98	98		as defined in s. 943.10(1), to attend a funeral service withi n 61
99	99		the state of a law enforcement officer who was killed in the 62
100	100		line of duty. The head of the law enforcement agency may deny 63
101	101		the use of administrative leave under this section in order to 64
102	102		maintain minimum or adequate staffing requirements. 65
103	103		Section 5. Paragraph (c) is added to subsection (3) of 66
104	104		section 287.17, Florida Statutes, to read: 67
105	105		287.17 Limitation on use of motor vehicles and aircraft. — 68

107	107		(c) For motor vehicles used by a state employee whose 70
108	108		duties are those of a law enforcement officer, a s defined in s. 71
109	109		943.10(1), the term "official state business" shall be construed 72
110	110		to permit the use of the vehicle to attend a funeral service 73
111	111		within the state of a law enforcement officer who was killed in 74
112	112		the line of duty if such use is at the direction o f or with the 75
