Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to develop a Cure 4
Diabetes license plate; providing for distribution and 5
use of fees collected from the sale of the plate; 6
providing an effective date. 7

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9

Section 1. Subsection (127) is added to section 320. 08058, 11
Florida Statutes, to read: 12
320.08058 Specialty license plates. — 13
(127) CURE DIABETES LICENSE PLATES. — 14
(a) The department shall develop a Cure Diabetes license 15
plate as provided in this section and s. 320.08053. The plate 16
must bear the colors an d design approved by the department. The 17
word "Florida" must appear at the top of the plate, and the 18
words "Cure Diabetes" must appear at the bottom of the plate. 19
(b) The annual use fees from the sale of the plate must be 20
distributed equally to the follo wing organizations: 21
1. The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, which 22
supports the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of 23
Miami Miller School of Medicine; 24
2. The JDRF International Incorporated, which supports the 25

3. The University of Florida Foundation, Inc., which 27
supports the University of Florida Diabetes Institute. 28
(c) Each organization may use up to 10 percent of the 29
proceeds received by the organization to promote and market the 30
plate. All remaining proceeds must be used for the purpose of 31
funding research to cure Type 1 diabetes. 32
Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2024. 33
