4-AN ACT concerning regulation.
5-Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
6-represented in the General Assembly:
7-Section 5. The Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and
8-Audiology Practice Act is amended by changing Section 8.5 as
9-follows:

12-Sec. 8.5. Qualifications for licenses as a speech-language
13-pathology assistant. A person is qualified to be licensed as a
14-speech-language pathology assistant if that person has applied
15-in writing or electronically on forms prescribed by the
16-Department, has paid the required fees, and meets both of the
17-following criteria:
18-(1) Is of good moral character. In determining moral
19-character, the Department may take into consideration any
20-felony conviction or plea of guilty or nolo contendere of
21-the applicant, but such a conviction or plea shall not
22-operate automatically as a complete bar to licensure.
23-(2) Has received either (i) an associate degree from a
24-speech-language pathology assistant program that has been
25-approved by the Department and that meets the minimum
26-requirements set forth in Section 8.6, or (ii) a

36-bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology or
37-communication sciences and disorders from a regionally or
38-nationally accredited institution approved by the
39-Department, and evidence of completion of at least 100
40-hours of documented field work supervised by a licensed
41-speech-language pathologist that is comparable to that
42-completed in a speech-language pathology assistant program
43-in this State.
