44 2 WHEREAS, Menopause and perimenopause impact every woman in
55 3 Illinois who lives to reach midlife, affecting 51% of our
66 4 State population; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Women can experience menopause and perimenopause
88 6 symptoms, including brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, chills, hot
99 7 flashes, sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety, anywhere
1010 8 between two to ten years; and
1111 9 WHEREAS, Ninety-four percent of women report being
1212 10 inadequately informed about menopause and other common female
1313 11 health issues; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, Seventy percent of women who seek medical care
1515 13 for menopause symptoms do not receive the necessary treatment,
1616 14 and only 19% of women aged 40 to 60 receive a menopause
1717 15 diagnosis; and
1818 16 WHEREAS, Seventy-three percent of women are not treating
1919 17 their menopause symptoms, leading to unnecessary health risks
2020 18 and economic burdens; and
2121 19 WHEREAS, The long-term effects of untreated perimenopause
2222 20 and menopause symptoms can increase risks for cardiovascular

3232 2 WHEREAS, Training in the delivery of menopause care for
3333 3 medical students and physicians is severely lacking, and there
3434 4 are fewer than 100 physicians certified as menopause health
3535 5 professionals in Illinois; and
3636 6 WHEREAS, It is estimated about $150 billion is lost
3737 7 globally due to menopause symptoms affecting worker
3838 8 productivity; and
3939 9 WHEREAS, Many critical questions about caring for women
4040 10 experiencing menopause remain unanswered due to a lack of
4141 11 research; and
4242 12 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton and the
4343 13 Illinois Council of Women and Girls have made this topic a
4444 14 priority in their work and aim to lead the nation in advocating
4545 15 for perimenopause and menopause policies; and
4646 16 WHEREAS, It is imperative to raise awareness about the
4747 17 expansive effects that menopause and perimenopause have on
4848 18 women's health and how women can advocate for themselves;
4949 19 therefore, be it
