1  SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
2  WHEREAS, Menopause and perimenopause impact every woman in
3  Illinois who lives to reach midlife, affecting 51% of our
4  State population; and
5  WHEREAS, Women can experience menopause and perimenopause
6  symptoms, including brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, chills, hot
7  flashes, sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety, anywhere
8  between two to ten years; and
9  WHEREAS, Ninety-four percent of women report being
10  inadequately informed about menopause and other common female
11  health issues; and
12  WHEREAS, Seventy percent of women who seek medical care
13  for menopause symptoms do not receive the necessary treatment,
14  and only 19% of women aged 40 to 60 receive a menopause
15  diagnosis; and
16  WHEREAS, Seventy-three percent of women are not treating
17  their menopause symptoms, leading to unnecessary health risks
18  and economic burdens; and
19  WHEREAS, The long-term effects of untreated perimenopause
20  and menopause symptoms can increase risks for cardiovascular

1  disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes; and
2  WHEREAS, Training in the delivery of menopause care for
3  medical students and physicians is severely lacking, and there
4  are fewer than 100 physicians certified as menopause health
5  professionals in Illinois; and
6  WHEREAS, It is estimated about $150 billion is lost
7  globally due to menopause symptoms affecting worker
8  productivity; and
9  WHEREAS, Many critical questions about caring for women
10  experiencing menopause remain unanswered due to a lack of
11  research; and
12  WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton and the
13  Illinois Council of Women and Girls have made this topic a
14  priority in their work and aim to lead the nation in advocating
15  for perimenopause and menopause policies; and
16  WHEREAS, It is imperative to raise awareness about the
17  expansive effects that menopause and perimenopause have on
18  women's health and how women can advocate for themselves;
19  therefore, be it
20  RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL

3  through October 18, 2025 as Menopause Awareness Week in the
