2317 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana
2418 2 Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on State
2519 3 Road 29 over Wildcat Creek in Burlington, Indiana, as the
2620 4 "Donald L. Mills Memorial Bridge".
2721 5 Whereas, Donald L. Mills was born on January 12, 1949, in
2822 6 Kokomo, Indiana, graduated from Kokomo High School in
2923 7 1967, and then joined the United States Army;
3024 8 Whereas, Mills served as a Chief Warrant Officer in the Army
3125 9 as a helicopter pilot, and he was deployed to Vietnam from
3226 10 April 15, 1970, to April 14, 1971;
3327 11 Whereas, On June 22, 1970, Mills was flying a Command and
3428 12 Control helicopter when a request was made for an emergency
3529 13 medical evacuation;
3630 14 Whereas, Mills immediately reacted to the request and
3731 15 proceeded to the pickup point with a complete disregard for his
3832 16 personal safety as the point was under heavy enemy fire upon
3933 17 his arrival;
4034 18 Whereas, Mills maneuvered his helicopter to make it a
4135 19 stationary target for enemy fire, shielding the extraction, and
4236 20 creating enough time for the wounded soldier to be placed
4337 21 aboard;
4438 22 Whereas, Through his timely actions, he was instrumental in
4539 23 saving the life of his fellow soldier and served as an inspiration
4640 24 to his entire unit; and

4842 1 Whereas, As a result of his bravery, Chief Warrant Officer
4943 2 Donald L. Mills was awarded the Air Medal, which is awarded
5044 3 for single acts of heroism or meritorious achievement while
5145 4 participating in aerial flight: Therefore,
5246 5 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
5347 6 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
5448 7 the Senate concurring:
5549 8 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly urges the
5650 9 Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the bridge on
5751 10 State Road 29 over Wildcat Creek in Burlington, Indiana, as the
5852 11 "Donald L. Mills Memorial Bridge".
5953 12 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
6054 13 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to the
6155 14 Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
