Requests DOTD to take action to provide greater safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to2 provide greater safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and3 Scenic Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish.4 WHEREAS, the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway in East Baton5 Rouge Parish is a dangerous intersection and has been the site of several fatal accidents; and6 WHEREAS, the most recent fatal accident occurred on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at7 about 5:21 p.m., when a twenty-seven year old Baton Rouge man died at the scene from8 injuries sustained when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle while trying to cross9 Scenic Highway; and10 WHEREAS, both drivers were wearing their seat belts and investigators have ruled11 out speed or alcohol as factors in the crash; and12 WHEREAS, action to provide greater safety to the motoring public at this13 intersection is needed.14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby15 request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to provide greater16 safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway in17 East Baton Rouge Parish.18 SCR NO. 63 SLS 14RS-1860 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the secretary of the Department of1 Transportation and Development shall submit a written report to the House and Senate2 committees on transportation, highways, and public works on the action taken by the3 department to provide greater safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas4 Road and Scenic Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish not later than August 1, 2014. 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the6 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.7 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Sharon F.
