SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 63

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to
provide greater safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and
Scenic Highway and the I-10 west entry ramp at Exit 157B on Acadian Thruway,
both in East Baton Rouge Parish.
WHEREAS, the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway in East Baton
Rouge Parish is a dangerous intersection and has been the site of several fatal accidents; and
WHEREAS, the most recent fatal accident occurred on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at
about 5:21 p.m., when Timothy Lee, a twenty-seven year old Baton Rouge man, died at the
scene from injuries sustained when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle while trying
to cross Scenic Highway; and
WHEREAS, both drivers were wearing their seat belts and investigators have ruled
out speed or alcohol as factors in the crash; and
WHEREAS, the I-10 west entry ramp at Exit 157B on Acadian Thruway is a heavily
traveled area and has been the site of several traffic accidents; and
WHEREAS, action to provide greater safety to the motoring public at these
intersections is needed.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to provide greater
safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway and
the I-10 west entry ramp at Exit 157B on Acadian Thruway, both in East Baton Rouge
Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the secretary of the Department of
Transportation and Development shall submit a written report to the House and Senate
committees on transportation, highways, and public works on the action taken by the
department to provide greater safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas SCR NO. 63 ENROLLED

Road and Scenic Highway and the I-10 west entry ramp at Exit 157B on Acadian Thruway,
both in East Baton Rouge Parish not later than August 1, 2014.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.
