SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 63

TRANSPORTATION/DEV DEPT. Requests DOTD to take action to provide greater safety
to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway in East
Baton Rouge Parish.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to2
provide greater safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and3
Scenic Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish.4
WHEREAS, the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway in East Baton5
Rouge Parish is a dangerous intersection and has been the site of several fatal accidents; and6
WHEREAS, the most recent fatal accident occurred on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at7
about 5:21 p.m., when Timothy Lee, a twenty-seven year old Baton Rouge man, died at the8
scene from injuries sustained when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle while trying9
to cross Scenic Highway; and10
WHEREAS, both drivers were wearing their seat belts and investigators have ruled11
out speed or alcohol as factors in the crash; and12
WHEREAS, action to provide greater safety to the motoring public at this13
intersection is needed.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby15
request the Department of Transportation and Development to take action to provide greater16
safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas Road and Scenic Highway in17
East Baton Rouge Parish.18 SCR NO. 63

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the secretary of the Department of1
Transportation and Development shall submit a written report to the House and Senate2
committees on transportation, highways, and public works on the action taken by the3
department to provide greater safety to the motoring public at the intersection of Thomas4
Road and Scenic Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish not later than August 1, 2014. 5
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the6
secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.7
