| 27 | 27 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of the same, as follows: |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, a uniformed |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 2member of a paid fire department or a uniformed member of a police department who is not a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 3member of a retirement system under chapter 32 of the general laws shall be exempt from |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 4section 2 of chapter 415 of the acts of 1987 but shall not continue to serve past the age of 72. |

| 33 | 33 | | 5 SECTION 2. This act shall not take effect until it has been adopted by a vote of the local |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 6legislative body. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 7 “Legislative body” shall mean, in the case of a city, the city council in accordance with |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 8its charter, and in the case of a town, the town meeting. |
