Blais relative to non-membership service in public safety for certain uniformed members of paid fire or police departments. Public Service. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relative to non-membership service in public safety. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, a uniformed 2member of a paid fire department or a uniformed member of a police department who is not a 3member of a retirement system under chapter 32 of the general laws shall be exempt from 4section 2 of chapter 415 of the acts of 1987 but shall not continue to serve past the age of 72. 5 SECTION 2. This act shall not take effect until it has been adopted by a vote of the local 6legislative body. 7 “Legislative body” shall mean, in the case of a city, the city council in accordance with 8its charter, and in the case of a town, the town meeting.
