An Act relative to civil service positions in the Department of Public Works of the city of 
Northampton.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, all positions in 
2the City of Northampton that are covered by the Civil Service provisions of M.G.L. c. 31, 
3including those positions in the Department of Public Works and Central Services Department, 
4shall be exempt from chapter 31 of the General Laws.
5 SECTION 2. Section 1 shall not impair the civil service status of any person holding a 
6position subject to Chapter 31 of the General Laws in the City of Northampton on the effective 
7data of this act. 
8 SECTION 3. The parties shall comply with the provisions of the Tentative Agreement 
9Between the City of Northampton and IUOE, Local #98, dated December 22, 2022, with regard 
10to the terms and conditions of the withdrawal of positions from chapter 31 of the General Laws 
11as provided in this act.  2 of 2
12 SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
