Currently,theDepartmentofNaturalResourcesisprohibitedfrom
issuingapermitfortheoperationofasolidwastedisposalarea
designedtoserveacitywithapopulationgreaterthan400,000
inhabitantslocatedinmorethanonecounty,ifthesiteislocated
withinone-halfmileofanadjoiningmunicipalitywithoutits
approval.
Thisbillchangestherequireddistancefromtheadjoining
municipalityfromone-halfmiletoonemile.
ThisbillisthesameasHB909(2023).
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatthebillisnecessarybecauseof
thedeclineinpropertyvaluesandthesmellsthattravelonthe
wind.Thisneedstobearegionalissue.Thepersonwhowantsto
putinthelandfillshouldtalktotheneighbors. Thereisnoneed
foralandfillinthisarea.
