2222 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
2323 SECTION 1. Chapter 25-2 of the General Laws entitled "Days of Special Observance" is 1
2424 hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 2
2525 25-2-60. Gold star spouses day. 3
2626 The fifth day in April in each and every year shall be set aside as a day to be known as 4
2727 "Rhode Island Gold Star Spouses Day." This nation and state owe an enormous debt to the 5
2828 surviving loved ones of military service members who died while serving their country and this 6
2929 day offers remembrance for the spouses and their families and a time of recognition of their 7
3030 sacrifices. The day is to be observed by the people of this state with appropriate exercises in public 8
3131 places, and shall cause a display of the state and American flags to be flown at half-staff over the 9
3232 Rhode Island state house to commemorate this day of remembrance to honor their memory. 10
3333 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 11
