2023 -- S 0749 ======== LC001574 ======== S TATE OF RHODE IS LAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2023 ____________ A N A C T RELATING TO HOLIDAYS AND DAYS OF SPECIAL OBSERVANCE -- DAYS OF SPECIAL OBSERVANCE Introduced By: Senator Walter S. Felag Date Introduced: March 22, 2023 Referred To: Senate Special Legislation and Veterans Affairs (Veterans) It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 25-2 of the General Laws entitled "Days of Special Observance" is 1 hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 2 25-2-60. Gold star spouses day. 3 The fifth day in April in each and every year shall be set aside as a day to be known as 4 "Rhode Island Gold Star Spouses Day." This nation and state owe an enormous debt to the 5 surviving loved ones of military service members who died while serving their country and this 6 day offers remembrance for the spouses and their families and a time of recognition of their 7 sacrifices. The day is to be observed by the people of this state with appropriate exercises in public 8 places, and shall cause a display of the state and American flags to be flown at half-staff over the 9 Rhode Island state house to commemorate this day of remembrance to honor their memory. 10 SECTION 2.
