 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, Caesar Kleberg contributed immeasurably to the Lone
 Star State through his unwavering dedication to its wildlife; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Cuero in 1873, Mr. Kleberg spent more than
 four decades living and working on the King Ranch in South Texas;
 passionate about wildlife and their habitats, he wrote rules about
 game and hunting and, around 1940, urged his uncle and the ranch's
 president and CEO Bob Kleberg, Jr., to hire the first wildlife
 biologist to be employed by a working cattle ranch in Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Kleberg's influence was also felt at the Texas
 Parks and Wildlife Department, where he served for 20 years and
 helped to save the state's diminishing population of wild turkeys;
 and
 WHEREAS, Since the death of this visionary man in 1946, the
 Caesar Kleberg Foundation for Wildlife Conservation has funded more
 than $40 million in wildlife research projects at Texas
 institutions of higher learning; the foundation has also created
 endowed chairs, directors, and professorships at Texas A&M
 University campuses in College Station and Kingsville, as well as
 at Texas Tech University, and provided financial support for more
 than 250 wildlife science graduate students; in 1981, a grant from
 the foundation established the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research
 Institute, which has become one of the leading wildlife research
 programs in the country; and
 WHEREAS, The late Caesar Kleberg was recognized in 2006 with
 a Texas Legends Award from the National Fish and Wildlife
 Foundation for his commitment to the conservation and management of
 the state's natural resources; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Caesar Kleberg worked
 tirelessly in behalf of our wildlife resources, and his
 accomplishments continue to benefit generations of Texans; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby honor the legacy of Caesar Kleberg and pay tribute to the
 lasting impact of his efforts.
