5	5	WHEREAS, State employees raised more than $2.1 million in the
6	6	2008 Capital Area State Employee Charitable Campaign; and
7	7	WHEREAS, Despite these challenging economic times, some
8	8	8,000 state and higher education employees throughout Bastrop,
9	9	Bell, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lampasas, Lee,
10	10	Llano, Mason, San Saba, Travis, and Williamson Counties donated to
11	11	more than 600 charities statewide; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Established in 1994, the SECC is the only
13	13	statutorily authorized workplace charity campaign for state agency
14	14	and higher education employees in Texas; screened for eligibility,
15	15	nonprofits that participate in this outstanding program include
16	16	local, national, and international organizations that provide
17	17	health and human services to individuals in need; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Thanks to the generous efforts of those who
19	19	participated, 2008 marked the fifth consecutive year that the
20	20	Capital Area SECC has exceeded the amount raised in the previous
21	21	year, and their contributions have made a positive difference in
22	22	many lives; now, therefore, be it
23	23	RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
24	24	hereby commend the Capital Area State Employee Charitable Campaign
25	25	on its dedicated efforts in behalf of charities throughout our
26	26	state and beyond and recognize the many individuals who generously
27	27	contributed their time and money to this worthy endeavor; and, be it
28	28	further
29	29	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
30	30	prepared for the Capital Area SECC as an expression of high regard
31	31	by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
