| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A century ago, the devoted alumni of Texas A&M |

| 6 | 6 | | University began to gather each year on San Jacinto Day to salute |

| 7 | 7 | | Texas independence, and in 1922 this annual event was enshrined as |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the official tradition of Aggie Muster, a day on which all alumni |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and students would gather to reminisce about their days at their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | beloved alma mater and to pay special tribute to those among them |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | who had died in the previous year; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, This tradition gained worldwide recognition in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1942, during World War II; led by General George Moore of the class |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of 1908, 25 Aggie servicemen risked their lives during the Japanese |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | siege of Corregidor to participate in Aggie Muster, a remarkable |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | display of their shared beliefs and values; since that time, Aggie |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Muster has continued to grow in popularity and in significance, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | today there are observances held in more than 400 locations around |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the world; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Aggie Muster is a poignant and heartfelt remembrance |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of those Aggies who have passed away in the previous year, and the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | legislature is pleased to salute the students, alumni, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | representatives of Texas A&M University who, through their |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | participation, exemplify the Lone Star State's spirit of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | friendship, courage, and compassion; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, in accordance with the house rules of procedure and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | policies of the House Administration Committee, hereby grant |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | permission to Texas Aggie Muster to use the chamber of the house in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the State Capitol on April 21, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., unless |

| 31 | 31 | | the Texas House of Representatives is in session at that time. |
