| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Renowned Texas quarterback Vince Young is in the |

| 6 | 6 | | midst of a promising professional career as a member of the |

| 7 | 7 | | Tennessee Titans of the National Football League, and his return to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the Lone Star State during the 2009 off-season provides a welcome |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | opportunity to pay tribute to his exceptional achievements; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A Houston native, Mr. Young first gained widespread |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | attention while at James Madison High School; a commanding presence |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | as quarterback of the Marlins, he was named the Texas High School |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Player of the Year in 2001 and was recruited by top college teams |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | throughout the nation; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Choosing to play college ball at The University of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texas at Austin, Mr. Young took over at quarterback as a redshirt |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | freshman and went on to post a career record of 30 wins and just two |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | losses as the Longhorns' starter; equally dangerous as a passer and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a runner, he also proved himself an assured leader with an |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | undeniable will to win; his determination was made unmistakably |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | clear in the 2006 Rose Bowl, when he engineered an astounding |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | late-game comeback and scored the winning touchdown on a dramatic |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | eight-yard run with just 19 seconds on the clock to give UT the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | national championship; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This phenomenal athlete was drafted in the first |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | round by the Tennessee Titans in 2006, and he wasted little time in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | proving that he had what it takes to be a star in the NFL; he took |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | charge of the team in the fourth game of the season, and by the end |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of the 2006 campaign, he had transformed a struggling squad into a |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contender that just narrowly missed the playoffs; in recognition of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | his inspired play, he was named the Associated Press NFL Offensive |

| 32 | 32 | | Rookie of the Year; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, In 2007, Mr. Young took up where he left off, helping |

| 34 | 34 | | his team to post a record of ten wins and six losses and guiding them |

| 35 | 35 | | to a spot in postseason play; he racked up impressive personal |

| 36 | 36 | | statistics along the way, passing for more than 2,500 yards and |

| 37 | 37 | | running for nearly 400; though he was slowed by an injury in 2008, |

| 38 | 38 | | Mr. Young is looking forward to further NFL glory in the seasons |

| 39 | 39 | | ahead, and he may rest assured that his successes will be heartily |

| 40 | 40 | | celebrated by the many Texans who proudly support this great Lone |

| 41 | 41 | | Star quarterback; now, therefore, be it |

| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
