H.R. No. 669 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Alana Peddy has been named the 2007-2008 Elementary School Teacher of the Year by the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Lamar University, Ms. Peddy began her notable career in education at Buna Elementary School in 1982; a decade later, she joined Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD as a first grade teacher with Mauriceville Elementary; and WHEREAS, Ms. Peddy has taught kindergarten for the past 15 years; with her students' welfare always her uppermost concern, she guarantees an optimal learning experience by styling her classes according to their needs and stressing the importance of hands-on lessons; and WHEREAS, In addition to her work inside the classroom, Ms. Peddy serves as co-chair of her school's hospitality committee and is a member of the community and student involvement, campus improvement, kindergarten report card revision, and kindergarten math curriculum committees; also the kindergarten team leader, she has developed an innovative curriculum and received a grant from Entergy Corporation to construct an outdoor classroom; and WHEREAS, This distinguished educator is the founding president of the Mauriceville Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization, and she further shares her time with the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, which she currently serves as district membership chair and Mauriceville campus representative; and WHEREAS, Also active in her community, Ms. Peddy has helped with the annual Mauriceville Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner and taught Vacation Bible School at the local First Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Alana Peddy has dedicated a quarter-century to the education and guidance of young people in Southeast Texas, and it is fitting that she be honored for her efforts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Alana Peddy on earning the title of 2007-2008 Elementary School Teacher of the Year from the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Peddy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
