55 AN ACT
66 relating to rules adopted and reporting required under the school
77 district college credit program.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subsection (b), Section 28.009, Education Code,
1010 is amended to read as follows:
1111 (b) The agency shall coordinate with the Texas Higher
1212 Education Coordinating Board as necessary in administering this
1313 section. The commissioner may adopt rules as necessary concerning
1414 the duties under this section of a school district. The Texas
1515 Higher Education Coordinating Board may adopt rules as necessary
1616 concerning the duties under this section of a public institution of
1717 higher education.
1818 SECTION 2. Effective September 1, 2009, Subsection (c),
1919 Section 28.009, Education Code, is amended to read as follows:
2020 (c) Each school district shall annually report to the
2121 agency:
2222 (1) the number of district students, including career
2323 and technical students, who have participated in the program [and
2424 earned college credit]; and
2525 (2) the [cumulative number of] courses in which
2626 participating district students [have enrolled and college credit
2727 hours the students] have earned high school credit under this
2828 section.
2929 SECTION 3. Effective September 1, 2011, Subsection (c),
3030 Section 28.009, Education Code, is amended to read as follows:
3131 (c) The commissioner and the Texas Higher Education
3232 Coordinating Board shall share data as necessary to enable school
3333 districts to comply with this subsection. Each school district
3434 shall annually report to the agency:
3535 (1) the number of district students, including career
3636 and technical students, who have participated in the program and
3737 earned college credit; and
3838 (2) the cumulative number of courses in which
3939 participating district students have enrolled and college credit
4040 hours the students have earned.
4141 SECTION 4. Effective September 1, 2011, Section 28.009,
4242 Education Code, is amended by adding Subsection (c-1) to read as
4343 follows:
4444 (c-1) The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board shall
4545 collect student course credit data from public institutions of
4646 higher education as necessary for purposes of Subsection (c).
4747 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4848 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4949 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
5050 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
5151 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
