| 14 | 14 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 15 | 15 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 443, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | adding Section 443.01525 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Sec. 443.01525. TEJANO MEMORIAL MONUMENT. The State |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Preservation Board shall establish a Tejano memorial monument on |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the historic south grounds of the Capitol that pays tribute to the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | contributions of Tejanos to the State of Texas. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. Section 443.0152, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (a-1) Except as provided by Sections 443.01525 and 448.034, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | after September 1, 2009, no additional monuments may be placed on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the historic grounds of the Capitol. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
