1010 relating to creating American Indian Heritage Day.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 662.056 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 662.056. AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE DAY. (a) The last
1515 Friday in September is American Indian Heritage Day in recognition
1616 of the historic, cultural, and social contributions American Indian
1717 communities and leaders have made to this state.
1818 (b) American Indian Heritage Day shall be regularly
1919 observed by appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs in the
2020 public schools and other places to honor American Indians in this
2121 state and to celebrate the rich traditional and contemporary
2222 American Indian culture.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2424 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2525 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2626 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2727 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
