1010 relating to the registration of token trailers.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 502.0023, Transportation Code, is
1313 amended by amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (d-1) to
1414 read as follows:
1515 (d) A license plate issued under this section:
1616 (1) may, on request of the owner, include the name or
1717 logo of the business entity that owns the vehicle;
1818 (2) except as provided by Subsection (d-1), must
1919 include the expiration date of the registration period; and
2020 (3) does not require an annual registration insignia
2121 to be valid.
2222 (d-1) The department shall issue a license plate for a token
2323 trailer registered under this section that does not expire. The
2424 alphanumeric pattern for a license plate issued under this
2525 subsection may remain on a token trailer for as long as the
2626 registration of the token trailer is renewed or until the token
2727 trailer is removed from service or sold. The registration receipt
2828 required under Section 621.002 is not required for a vehicle that
2929 displays a license plate issued under this subsection.
3030 SECTION 2. Section 502.255(i), Transportation Code, is
3131 amended to read as follows:
3232 (i) The department shall issue a license plate for a token
3333 trailer registered under this section that does not expire or
3434 require an annual registration insignia to be valid. The
3535 alphanumeric pattern for a license plate issued under this
3636 subsection may remain on a token trailer for as long as the
3737 registration of the token trailer is renewed or until the token
3838 trailer is removed from service or sold. The registration receipt
3939 required under Section 621.002 is not required for a vehicle that
4040 displays a license plate issued under this subsection [may issue
4141 specially designed license plates for token trailers].
4242 SECTION 3. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles shall
4343 adopt rules for the administration of Sections 502.0023 and
4444 502.255(i), Transportation Code, as amended by this Act, as soon as
4545 practicable after this Act takes effect. For that purpose, the
4646 department may adopt the rules in the manner provided by law for
4747 emergency rules.
4848 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4949 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
5050 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
5151 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
5252 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
